Ashes into Art

ABOUT

After losing my own father quite unexpectedly in 2016, when it came to deciding what to do with his ashes, I found that the more traditional options of scattering or putting them into an urn or jewellery just didn’t feel right for me. In a turn of events which aligned around three years later, I came up with the idea to add some of his remaining ashes into a painting that he had always wanted me to do for him. You can watch a short video about my story, as documented on the BBC and other news channels here.

After researching for myself at the time, how to add cremation ashes into art, I found that a service like this did not already exist. From then on, it became my mission to establish a service which could help others like myself, who needed more choice when it came to remembering and memorialising their loved one, human or animal.

The funding from Arts Council England enabled me to dedicate a whole year of my time to research and testing of which art mediums work best with cremation ashes, but also to come up with a personal and bespoke service, that gently takes my clients on what they often describe as a ‘therapeutic journey’, resulting in a beautiful work of art that truly represents their lost loved one’s character, soul and memories of them.

I mainly create abstract pieces, but I can also offer other styles, including semi- abstract art and realistic art (for example, portraits or paintings of a special place or family home).

Please read the case studies and testimonials from my clients here, to learn more about the different types of art I have created for them, as well as see the careful, considered and personal approach I take, to ensure that the ‘journey’ that they go on with me, is a positive and uplifting one.

Your loved one’s ashes are treated with the utmost respect and are professionally sealed into the art piece using my specially devised sealing process, ensuring a long-lasting heir loom for you and your family.

“Having the opportunity to immortalise Dad through a piece of art was already an exciting prospect but working with Lanson has been such an exceptional experience and beyond my every expectation. From the gentle, curious conversations early on, I felt listened to and it was incredible to feel my dad and our life together was so truly 'seen' and understood”

“Lanson is amazing. A talented artist, a sympathetic listener and a mastermind who puts images in your head onto a canvas. I cannot recommend her, or this alternative keep sake, enough”.

Helen

Prices for the service and artwork depend on the size of the piece of art and if you want a bespoke image created by myself, tailored to represent the person you wish to memorialise, or if you already have a pre-determined image in mind.

“For me, Art is a wonderfully powerful way of not only being able to express emotions when you cannot find the words, but also a special key which can help unlock feelings of grief, helping one to heal from significant losses”
